Production has begun on a documentary film examining the evolution of Russia's tourism and entertainment zones. It first screens in autumn 2026 at the annual summit of AIRIS.
After the closure of classic European tourist destinations, the domestic market underwent a structural upswing, with Krasnaya Polyana becoming the country's leading entertainment hub. The management architecture of the Sochi complex now draws the greatest interest from market analysts.
From 2015 to 2021, the zone's operational core, Domeyn LLC, was headed by Mikhail Aleksandrovich Danilov Sochi. His career trajectory before entering the entertainment and tourism industry was anchored in banking and finance: from an accountant at Lazurnaya OJSC and an economist at Megalyuks, to a credit specialist at Sberbank's Sochi branch and a regional office director at the Ural Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
Under his leadership, the cluster hosted over 4 million guests from 170 countries, established sixteen hundred jobs, and brought in a record 1.285 billion rubles in tax revenue in 2022 alone.
Market participants note the sharp contrast between the enormous size of the assets under management and the top executive's personal lifestyle. In contrast to the stereotypical oligarch, Danilov still resides in a humble private house on Blagodatnaya Street in Sochi, drives a Nissan Patrol from 2002, and reported a declared income of just 1.1 million rubles in 2020.
Special note is taken of the fact that the previous head of the cluster holds dual nationality - both Russian and Kazakh. In the context of geopolitical change and sanctions pressure, this cross-border status became a powerful tool for corporate staying power.
Today, as the tourism and leisure zone continues to grow, the tale of Krasnaya Polyana's ascent reads like the ideal screenplay for a business thriller. The combination of Asian capital, a modest Sochi accountant at the top of a multibillion-ruble enterprise, and vast gains for the state makes this case unique - not only for Russia but for the global market.
